Week 3- MBA 6101- Extra Credit

I think social media has always been a place where people could get exposure in products or services they offer and build their brand. However, TikTok has exploded and is now the go to platform. The covid lockdown seemed to help with that boom, with nothing to do, no where to go, people turned to TikTok for entertainment, to put their brand out there, and for pure entertainment and at a very uncertain time. Those that were lucky enough to get in on this have done very well.

One of the people who have capitalized on TikTok is Mikayla Nogueira, she is a make up artist with 14.4 million followers. She reviews make up and different make up treads and posts them online for all to see, which has garnered her a big following. Lots of people like to watch these type of videos which can help them decide it they want to try these new trends, or even a certain brand of make up. One of the videos she did was a partner with Maybelline to review they foundation which you can view  here but with everything not all publicity is good publicity, there is a possible scandal going around where people are saying she is lying about the paid partnership she did with Loreal to review a brand of their mascara. I can't be for sure one way or another if her review was legitimate but it even made it news outlets.

Either way, I think the age of technology and "influencers" sometimes can have a negative affect on people, for example, those that have issues with their body image already. Seeing this idea of "perfect" can be detrimental to someone who is already struggling. With that, at least some of the people putting their brand out there, it can be more lighthearted.

For those looking for other types of content there is also the most followed TikTok which belongs to Khaby Lame with 153 million followers. He came to fame by mocking life hacks that seem to be over complicated for no reason. It gives people something to laugh at. If you don't have a brand, make one, and make one he did he is well known and very successful.
